Firmware Reset

When using the Leap Motion Controller for the first time, there is a firmware update step. If this step is for any reason interrupted, your Leap Motion Controller's firmware could become corrupted.

Follow the instructions below to use the firmware reset tool to restore your firmware.



Stopping Leap daemon / service from running

It may be possible in some cases that you already have the leap daemon / service running. You can check if this is running by looking at your system processes on Mac or services on Windows.

On Mac you will see a system level process named "leapd".

On Windows you will see a service process named "LeapService".


Running the Firmware reset tool on Windows

  1. Make sure your Leap Motion controller is plugged into your computer.
  2. Download and run the firmware reset tool from the Windows button below.
  3. Accept the driver installation.
  4. Press Enter. The tool will begin restoring your firmware.
  5. You will be prompted to unplug, and then reconnect your Leap Motion controller while the utility runs.


Running the Firmware reset tool on Mac

  1. Make sure your Leap Motion controller is plugged into your computer.
  2. Download the firmware reset tool from the Mac OSX button below.
  3. Double-click to open the dmg.
  4. Launch a Terminal window.
  5. Type: cd /Volumes/LM_FirmwareReset_Mac then press Enter/Return
  6. Type: ./FirmwareReset then press Enter/Return
  7. Make sure your Leap Motion controller is plugged into your computer.
  8. Press Enter/Return. The tool will begin restoring your firmware.
  9. You will be prompted to unplug, and then reconnect your Leap Motion controller while the utility runs.

Recalibrate the Device

  • Recalibration can started by clicking on the Leap Application icon in the system tray (Windows) or Menu Bar (Mac).
